I like smileys because they make me smile :) In 2018 I was asked to create a few bumpers for the cable access station in Tucson. The only direction was to “go for it”. I knew I wanted to build the animation around a simple icon. While staring off trying to decide what to do my eye landed on my smiley face baseball I kept at my desk. I knew immediately what to do. I typically script and storyboard before I start animating but with this one, I dove right in. I did the entire animation in After Effects using no 3D software. I used several expressions for the more intricate parts and a few design tricks along the way. It was a mere 2 days from start to completion.
